Motoshige

Since 1925, Western Shimane Prefecture, Japan

A small Japanese pottery workshop specializing in mortars and graters. The vessels are fired at over 1300°C, using high-quality, heat-resistant Iwami clay. This firing temperature is much higher than ordinary pottery, resulting in pieces that are hard, lightweight, and durable, almost porcelain-like. Highly resistant to water, acids, and alkalis, the distinctive rough texture of Iwami-yaki allows ingredients to be firmly gripped, making it ideal for crafting mortars.
