OUR STORIES

RE:FORM started with a suitcase that never came back empty.

We love wandering through homeware stores in different countries, discovering the kitchen tools, tableware, and everyday objects that speak to us. We realised we wanted to make these products easier to find here in New Zealand.

We've always been especially drawn to Nordic and Japanese design, quiet, thoughtful, respectful of materials, and built for real life.

RE is what we've always been doing, rethinking how an object exists, redefining what it means to have it in your life. FORM is how we choose: made to last, flexible in use, considered in every detail.

When Julian took over a boutique motel in Napier, we closed our little shop on Tory Street. The wind in Wellington still blows. But the things we've found along the way continue here, online.

As described by Neat Places:

RE:FORM is one of those rare finds that feels more like an artistic experience than a shop - a pause in your day where the air somehow feels clearer and the pace a little more leisurely. A local celebration of the best of ‘Japandi’ design, this is a place where Scandinavian functionality meets the poetic restraint of Japanese aesthetics, resulting in a space that radiates calm confidence.

The store’s fitout echoes its minimalist yet practical philosophy: clean lines provide a frame for a mix of textures including warm wood and neutral tones, set against a spotless white backdrop. Shimmering silver kitchen utensils hang from hooks, juxtaposed against the earthy tones of the cushions that line an entire shelf. Outside, a beautiful wrought iron arch dominates the entrance, drawing curious passersby in.

At RE:FORM you’ll find a collection of pieces that are as practical as they are elegant - think hand-thrown ceramics, Japanese kitchen tools, Akari lighting, and homeware from standout Scandinavian and Japanese designers. The catalogue is refined and personal, shaped by a clear, independent point of view - the team here aren’t into following mindless trends. The owners only bring in what they genuinely use and love, and that honesty threads through everything, from the sustainable sourcing to the considered store layout.

If you’re into fast consumption or design fads, it’s probably best you look the other way. RE:FORM’s ethos is all about slowing down, buying better, and finding joy in the pieces that quietly shape our routines. Whether you’re after a gift with soul or something meaningful for your own space, this is the kind of place that reminds you what good design should feel like.
