Kurikawa Shoten Japanese Fan - Shomaru

$70.00
DETAILS

Handcrafted by artisans in Kumamoto, Japan for around 400 years.

Made from Japanese paper treated with natural persimmon tannin (Kakishibu) and finished with a bamboo handle, the fan is strong, naturally insect-resistant, and develops a deeper, warmer colour as it ages.

More than a traditional fan, it also makes a beautiful decorative piece. Hang it on the wall, lean it casually against a shelf, or take inspiration from Ingo Maurer’s fan lights to create your own unique wall light.

It is also a practical kitchen tool, traditionally used by chefs to cool sushi rice, help control heat when cooking over charcoal, and fan the flames when enjoying a BBQ.
